Beginning Tap Dance

Catalog description
This course introduces basic tap dance techniques using various beginning level combinations and rhythmic structures. It provides students an opportunity to develop motor coordination and rhythm through style and performance. Historical studies on tap dance pioneers, cultural influences, and current trends are introduced. Compositional forms and rhythms are practiced leading to an understanding and appreciation of tap as an artistic dance form. Note: For successful completion of this course, student will need to acquire their own tap shoes and have access to a hardwood floor or tap board. (UC, CSU, AVC)
