Catalog description

Premodern and modern eras. Students will be introduced to the region and the approaches of women’s history and gender history. Topics will include the intersection of gender, religion, Confucianism, and other belief systems. The course will also consider the impact of imperialism and modernization efforts on gender roles. Students will explore the daily experiences of women and ideas related to marriage practices, the family and household, edu- cation, and the economic sphere.
