Catalog description
This course examines the success of the parasitic lifestyle by studying the various aspects of a host-parasite re - lationship. Topics include form and function , life cycles and adapta - tions to increase transmission , symptoms and causes of pathology, and mechanisms permitting the evasion of the host immune system. The course ends with an introduction to the ecological descriptors of para - site communities. Both medically and non-medically important para- sites will be discussed. Course meets concurrently with Biology 4441 but requires additional readings, papers, discussions, and/or presenta - tions for graduate students.
