INDEPENDENT PRACTICUM WITH VULNERABLE POPULATIONS

Catalog description

During this course, students have the opportunity to apply their research knowledge, depending on the area of interest, to work with vulnerable populations. It provides for the identification and work with specific problems that lead to the creation of nursing models to intervene with these populations through supervised and independent learning experiences. The internship must begin in this course, and the student will have the opportunity to choose with the program director or academic advi sor the area of interest to work on from now on. The student must select one of the following vulnerable populations: female, neonatal, pediatric, psychiatric, adult, and geriatric. Once the student selects the population of interest, he/she will be assign ed a preceptor who will supervise his/her performance in his/her place of practice and advise him/her in relation to the problem to be worked on and the nursing model to be applied to solve it. It facilitates the development of competencies for the draftin g of guidelines and standards related to prevention and health promotion, quality and safety improvement, advanced care for vulnerable groups, evidence -based research and practice, and leadership and professionalism. It requires 135 hours of supervised practice.
