CRITICAL CARE IN NURSING

Catalog description

This course is designed for students to acquire knowledge, skills, and competencies to provide nursing care to clients who are in critical care in the emergency room or intensive care units. Students will be prepared to provide care for patients at all stages of growth and development as they experience life -threatening critical health conditions. The student learns about triage screening, assessment and immediate care, wound management, pain management, patient care at the end of life, emergency management, patient management during cardiorespiratory arrest, related ethical -legal aspects, patient and family education as well as the role of the intensivist nurse in light of the technolog ical advances of the 21st century and the role of nurses in situations of child abuse, sexual abuse, domestic violence, substance abuse and emergencies mental. In relation to the most significant emergency traumas such as car accidents, head trauma, chest and spinal cord trauma, gastrointestinal, renal and genitourinary. Emergency care for the special population (obstetrics, pediatric and geriatric), medical - surgical emergencies such as respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological, infectious, environmental, t oxicological shock, and eyes are also discussed. Emphasizes critical health deviations such as cardiovascular, pulmonary, neurological, renal, GI, and endocrine, in addition to scientific knowledge and the use of Marjorie Gordon's functional patterns, to estimate and plan for required care.
