This course is an introduction to the profession of landscape architecture. Throughout the course, the built environment, as well as the ecological, cultural, and social aspects related to the discipline, are analyzed. The laws and regulations governing the field are addressed, along with a variety of design problems through historical examples, including the role of the landscape architect and the evolution of the profess ion. The principles of sustainability and their effects on natural systems are discussed, as well as land-use planning, policies, and strategies to improve urban issues that impact quality of life. Landscape architecture is explored through the study of it s role in literature, the arts, photography, cartography, and more.
