Catalog description
The biochemistry, molecular, and cell biology course introduces biochemical compounds, mechanisms, and essential concepts for dental students as a primer for subsequent advanced courses in biomedical sciences. The course integrates translational concepts in dentistry through topics such as nutrition and dietary deficiencies, blood clotting, genetic disorders of metabolism, dental erosion, and disorders of connective tissue, with an emphasis on the biochemical mechanisms as part of the conceptual understanding required for the practice of dentistry and the successful completion of the Integrated National Board Dental Examination.
