Catalog description

Three hours of lecture/laboratory per week. This course introduces participants to the key concepts of data communications, telecommunications, networking, technologies, components, and protocols used in local area networking (LAN) and wide area networking (WAN) environments. Students will learn about the popular LAN protocols of Ethernet, Token Ring, and asynchronous transfer mode (ATM), with emphasis on all speeds of Ethernet. This course also introduces the m ost widely used network operating systems. Bas ic network design and security concepts are discussed. Besides contributing to the development of technological competence, this course also explores ethical issues arising from computer and network security.
