Catalog description

Three hours of lecture/laboratory per week. Introduction to basic operating systems concepts, UNIX operating system, process management, communication and scheduling; I/O devices, drivers, interrupts handlers, and deadlock; memory management, swapping and virtual memory; file systems, security, and protection mechanisms. In addition to exploring operating system concepts, this course will enable students to test innovative ideas for automating system administration tasks and gain background knowledge for developing more robust and efficient programs in subsequent courses.
