Catalog description
This course provides an overview of spacecraft power systems, focusing on the principles, design, and operation of power systems used in satellites and space missions. It covers the fundamental concepts of satellite systems, orbit mechanics, and the near -Earth space environment. Students will learn about various power system options , including photovoltaic (PV) arrays, batteries, fuel cells, and nuclear power systems. The course delves into the design processes and trade -offs for power system components, including solar arrays, batteries, power electronics, and distribution harnesses. Advanced topics such as electromagnetic interference, energy balance, power management, and the challenges of deep space and interplanetary missions are also explored.
