The COVID-19 global pandemic has resulted in an awareness of the value of operational measures of specialized intelligence regarding public health and associated potential impacts on national defense, global security, diplomacy, and public policy. This class examines the role and function of medical intelligence (MI), as directed by U.S. functions of intelligence, public health, and safety. This class focuses on mechanisms to deliver decision advantages in support of American military operations, including the investigation and rapid implementation of control measures, and the collection and analysis of medically based evidence to promulgate preventive actions. Topics include evaluating the efficacy of strategic countermeasures for chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear weapons; analyzing the application of MI for emerging biotechnology; pandemic potential of existing diseases; biosafety and biosecurity issues; and the appraisal of the effectiveness of collaboration and information dissemination between the American intelligence and public communities, the community of American allies, and other global entities.
