World Justice Across Philosophical Traditions (3) This course invites students to an intellectual journey across thought-worlds of justice, from Greco-Roman and Euro-American classics to South, East, and Southeast Asian literatures, and to a rich history of political, economic, and legal thought in Africa and Latin America. Questions examined include what is owed to other peoples and polities in global encounters; whether one can reason from their civilizational viewpoints and interpret their traditions; whether one should draw resemblances from comparative traditions to build a global ethics or defer to different ways of dissent and debate at home and abroad; and when in dialogue with collective strangers, what is discovered about one's own community.
