AI and the Future of Work (3) This course examines the potential and perils of artificial intelligence (AI), considering its origins and intended purposes, as well as likely applications, while assessing its relationship to human intelligence. The course explores the social and historical context of the origins of AI, the involvement of public agencies and private corporations, the contributions of various thinkers to the development of machine learning, fictional treatments of AI, contemporary debates, and possible trajectories with respect to the future of work. Through reading histories, biographies, relevant fiction, and critical essays, the course sheds light on problems and choices with respect to AI, choices that influence the quality of our lives and our capacity as humans.
