Advanced Studies in Literature, Culture, and Technology (3) Topics vary by section. This interdisciplinary course explores the evolving relationship between cultural texts and technology, examining how technological advancements shape narratives, identities, and power structures. Through critical readings of contemporary fiction, theory, and media, students analyze how literature both reflects and critiques technological change, from artificial intelligence and surveillance to digital labor and virtual realities. Various sections of the course engage with novels, films, and theoretical texts that interrogate issues such as algorithmic bias, data capitalism, and the ethics of automation. Discussions consider how storytelling influences technological imaginaries and how technology alters the way we tell, read, and understand stories. Crosslist: LIT-684.
