Catalog description

Young Adult Literature (3) What makes literature young adult (YA), vs adult or middle grade? In this literary analysis slash workshop course, students read YA novels across genres, analyzing their formal and craft elements (e.g., structure, plot, POV, characterization, voice), as well as studying the historical context of the genre and the publishing market; they then apply that knowledge to creating and developing their own original YA novel ideas. AU Core Habits of Mind: Creative-Aesthetic Inquiry.
