Linguistic Research Methods (3) This course introduces students to contemporary methods and tools for conducting quantitative and qualitative research in applied linguistics, including second language learning, translation, interpreting, and corpus-based research. Students develop quantitative literacy skills by engaging with the full research cycle: identifying questions, transforming linguistic data into numerical form, reasoning about statistical procedures, and critically evaluating methodological choices. Through readings, scaffolded mini-projects, and a final project, students gain experience with statistical procedures, qualitative coding, and corpus analysis while also learning ethical compliance protocols. Crosslist: LING-405, SPAN-405, and SPAN-605.
