Catalog description

Since the passage of the Wagner Act in 1935, the study of labor law has been marked by important and sometimes seismic shifts in labor policy and regulation. This course provides an opportunity for in-depth study into the current state of US labor law, including how labor law is responding to new technologies and the fundamental changes in the way some workers earn a living. The course will often follow the news headlines and focus on the most important legal developments at the National Labor Relations Board, US Department of Labor, Federal Labor Relations Authority, in collective bargaining, before labor arbitrators, and in the state and federal courts. Students will participate in a mock hearing or other simulation exercise at the end of the course.
