This course is an overview of insurance law with a focus, at times, on Maryland law. Insurance is an increasingly important tool for the management of risk by both private and public enterprises. This course provides a working knowledge of basic insurance law governing insurance contract formation, insurance regulation, property, life, health, disability, and liability insurance and claims processes. The emphasis throughout the course is on the link between traditional insurance law doctrine and modern ideas about the functions of private law.
