Catalog description

Algebra, Functions, and Modeling in the Real World (3) This course provides participants with a rich understanding of essential concepts undergirding high school algebra, functions, and the modeling process. Participants consider critical components of how grades 6-12 students develop algebraic thinking and proficiency. An in-depth focus on functions allows participants to systematically explore patterns, changes, and relationships among quantities. Understanding and applying components of the modeling process allows teachers to examine authentic real-world situations by building mathematical models and applying solutions using the lens of culturally relevant pedagogy and social justice mathematics. Grading: A-F only. Restriction: Teaching (MAT) [City Teaching Alliance].
