Race Ethnicity and Culture in American Sports, Experimental

Catalog description

Sports have a significant impact in American culture and ethnic groups have historically played a prominent role in multiple ways. This course aims to explore the historical contexts and socio-cultural impacts of race, ethnicity, and racism in American sports including professional, Olympic, collegiate, high school and youth sports. Throughout the course we will study prominent sports figures from various ethnic groups and use their lives to help us explore the social, cultural, economic, and political structures that frame them.
