6 Lab Hours Co-requisites: BAR 112C Description This course examines bacteriology including the growth, reproduction and relationship of bacteria to the spread of diseases. Infection control and safe work practices as they relate to the barbershop are discussed. Decontamination for the prevention and control of pathogen transmittal, demonstration of proper decontamination procedures for tools, equipment and surfaces are introduced. Universal precautions and responsibility of a professional barber are identified along with the principal tools and implements of barbering. The importance of anatomy and physiology to the professional are discussed along with chemistry, electricity and light therapy. Emphasis of safety precautions includes investigation of properties and disorders of the skin, hair and scalp.
