Catalog description
This course explores the evolution of Western art from the Renaissance to contemporary times, examining major artists, movements and their cultural impact. Students analyze the formal qualities, historical significance and social contexts of key artworks, tracing developments from Baroque and Neoclassicism to Modernism and Postmodernism. Emphasis is placed on the relationship between art and historical change, including the rise of new media, global influences and evolving artistic philosophies. Through critical thinking and visual analysis, students gain a deeper appreciation of how modern and contemporary art shapes and reflects society.
