This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the domain of cybersecurity, uniquely framed within the context of economic principles. The course aims to equip students with a profound understanding of the interplay between economic concepts and cybersecurity challenges. The topics include economic mechanisms that influence cybersecurity, including the dynamics of misaligned incentives, information asymmetry, and externalities. By exploring the economic underpinnings of cybersecurity, the course offers insights into the formulation of effective strategies against the rising tide of cyber threats. Students will delve into the nuances of measuring cybersecurity, understanding the particulars of security metrics, and the economics of information security investments. The course also tackles the concept of market failures in cybersecurity and the role of behavioral economics in shaping security policies and regulations. Prerequisite(s): C YBR 101 or C YBR 102 or C YBR 124X or C YBR 242.
