Catalog description

This course will introduce students to and instill a foundation in Musical Theatre dance styles. A combination of dance elements, technique, and terminology will be covered through learning dance steps, sequences and choreography. Dance styles will include elements of Jazz, Ballet, Tap, Motown/Jukebox, Lyrical and Theatrical/Expressive Movement, drawing upon a variety of Musical Theatre Works and Choreographers. Students will work on the development of basic technique, accurate execution, memorization of movement, and characterization within the different dance styles, while learning how to apply these skills to musical theatre dance classes, auditions, rehearsals and performance. Prerequisite(s): permission of instructor.
