Catalog description

This clinical rotation focuses on the scientific knowledge for nursing practice and innovation in care of the adult with potentially life-threatening changes of condition, illness, or injury as the basis for clinical judgment, critical thinking, and application of the nursing process with patients, families, communities, and populations. Students will apply knowledge on advanced medical-surgical, critical, and emergency life-threatening conditions in adult acute regenerative/restorative care. Transitions from acute regenerative/restorative care to hospice/palliative-focused goals of care will be addressed within ethical and legal frameworks. Disease prevention and chronic disease management as it directly relates to preventing acute care conditions will be integrated. The nurse's role in managing acute deteriorations in health status and management of a standard professional workload of patients with acute conditions will be explored. Factors supporting clinician wellbeing and mental health hygiene in acute and critical care are integrated with hands-on experiences. Prerequisite(s): H NSG 330, H NSG 335, H NSG 340, H NSG 345, H NSG 355, H NSG 411 and H NSG 412 with a B or better to register for H NSG 425. Corequisite(s): H NSG 420. Restricted to students in Nursing B.S. AM program.
