Clinical Practice: Procedural Nursing

Catalog description
This seminar and clinical rotation will offer second-year nursing students a comprehensive understanding of the perioperative nursing specialty. This course expands upon the foundational knowledge and medical-surgical concepts previously obtained, providing the necessary depth and breadth to begin working in the operating room as a novice nurse. Throughout the course, students will have the opportunity to apply theoretical concepts in real-world settings through supervised clinical experiences encompassing all aspects of perioperative care. Emphasis will be placed on the role of the professional circulating nurse, while also providing exposure to the scrub role, post-anesthesia care, and wound management. Prerequisite(s): H NSG 102, 212, 230, 240, 245, and 248 with a B or better and H NSG 211, A PSY 101 and E PSY 224 with a C or better to register for H NSG 355. Restricted to students in Nursing B.S. AM program.
