Clinical Practice: Chronic Conditions in Med-Surg Nursing

Catalog description
This clinical rotation focuses on applying the scientific knowledge for nursing practice and innovation in care of adults with chronic conditions and functional needs as the basis for clinical judgment, critical thinking, and application of the nursing process with patients, families, communities, and populations. Students will apply knowledge on common chronic disease management, hospice/palliative care, and wellness/disease prevention with a diversity of adults in need of skilled nursing services to the clinical setting. Students will demonstrate safety to ensure clients receive quality, patient-centered care. The nurse’s scope of practice across the illness-wellness continuum for adults with chronic conditions and functional needs will be explored with hands-on experiences. Prerequisites: H NSG 102 with B or better, H NSG 210, 211, A PSY 101, E PSY 224 with C or better to register for H NSG 220. Corequisite(s): H NSG 212, 225. Restricted to students in Nursing B.S. AM program.
