Med-Surg Nursing: Chronic Care & Diagnostics

Catalog description

This seminar focuses on the scientific knowledge for nursing practice and innovation in care of adults with chronic conditions and functional needs as the basis for clinical judgment, critical thinking, and application of the nursing process with patients, families, communities, and populations. Emphasis will be placed on common chronic disease management, hospice/palliative care, and wellness/disease prevention with a diversity of adults in need of skilled nursing services. Transitions from chronic disease management to acute regenerative/restorative care will be addressed within ethical and legal frameworks. Across the adult lifespan, special emphasis will be placed on the older adult and adults with disabilities. The nurse's role across the illness-wellness continuum for adults with chronic conditions and functional needs will be explored. Prerequisite(s): H NSG 102 with B or better, H NSG 210, H NSG 211, A PSY 101, and E PSY 224 with C or better to register for H NSG 220. Corequisite(s): H NSG 212 and H NSG 225. Restricted to students in Nursing B.S. AM program.
