Catalog description

This course will cover the biochemical synthesis and modification of biomolecules, including simple sugars, lipids, proteins and nucleic acids. This course will introduce students to advanced topics in biochemistry including lipid and hormone metabolism, photosynthesis, high-throughput DNA sequencing, and biochemical engineering. The student will also become familiar with various online databases related to analysis of protein structure and interpretation of human diseases. Emphasis will be placed on adaptation of genetic and biochemical routes for the production of tailored molecules for molecular self-assembly or nanoscale interfacial engineering. Prerequisite(s): I NSC/I NEN 116 and 117 and I NSC 240 or permission of instructor.
