Social Entrepreneurship
University at Albany · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
This course is about using entrepreneurial skills to craft innovative responses to social problems. Entrepreneurs are particularly good at recognizing opportunities, exploring innovative approaches, mobilizing resources, managing risks, and building viable enterprises. These skills are just as valuable in the social sector as they are in business. "Social entrepreneurship" applies to both profit and non-profit firms which have programs designed to create social value. To achieve this purpose, this course covers extensive content materials using the text, lectures, guest visitors, and class discussions; it brings application and relevance through the use of case studies; and it provides personal project presentations at the end of the semester. Open only to School of Business majors. Prerequisite(s): declared School of Business majors. B MGT 341. B MGT 400 strongly recommended. Offered Fall semester only.
