Dive into the heart of narrative creation in games, where storytelling takes on a whole new dimension. This course delves into the theory and practice of crafting narratives within the gaming realm. It scrutinizes the fundamental elements of storytelling in games, including narration, character development, story arcs, point of view, voice, tense, cut scenes, mise en scène, narrative wash, backstory, and the art of storytelling using affordances and signifiers. World building and emergent storytelling will be explored, as well as the intriguing concept of found text and found audio. Throughout the module, a variety of strategies will be employed to help students cultivate their skills as games narrative creators. Practical exercises and engaging activities will be leveraged to guide students in developing their unique narrative voice and refining their individual styles of writing and visual storytelling.
