Human Trafficking

Catalog description

Human trafficking is a crime of exploitation which affects nearly all countries and peoples, and is only growing in scale and scope. This interdisciplinary course explores human trafficking from a variety of vantages, each of which provides key insights into the legal, economic, and psychological dimensions of this crime. The course also examines how the phenomenon of human trafficking is interwoven within historical gender-, race-, and class-based biases, each of which shape the societal recognition of who is or is not a victim. Additionally, the course highlights several methodological and political issues which complicate the study of this crime and the development of meaningful policy responses. Finally, structured debates will allow students to address the important ethical dilemmas, including our own responsibility, when we purchase products and services made available by vendors who use trafficked workers. T EHC 321 is the Honors College version of C EHC 321. Only one version may be taken for credit.
