Modern Art: A Revolution in Time and Space

Catalog description

This course is designed to survey modern art from the perspective of significant themes, theories and practices from 1848 to the Second World War. While the focus of the course is placed on European and American artistic practices and developments, emphasis will also be given to Asia, Africa, and Oceania in the evolution of modern art. The impact of political crises, economic histories, colonialist policies and the effects of social transformations on modernism will be explored. Prerequisite(s): one 100 or 200 level Art History course or permission of instructor.
