What happens at the intersection of the visual and literary arts? What if we wrote the story of Van Gogh’s Starry Night? Wrote a poem based on a film? A memoir based on a tattoo? This term we’ll be doing Ekphrastic writing, which is drafting a poem, story, or memoir based on someone else’s piece of art or an object from the world around us. In this class we’ll be visiting a local museum as part of a semester-long project on a piece of local art. We’ll also spend half of each class workshopping student poems and stories.
