Catalog description

Taught in English. This course examines influential films and documentaries from and about Latin America and the Caribbean as windows into history, politics, and cultural identity. Students will study both narrative and documentary forms to understand how cinema portrays authoritarianism, revolution, imperialism, migration, and social struggle. Readings in film studies, history, and cultural theory provide tools for analyzing visual texts, evaluating ethical questions of representation, and developing intercultural awareness and global citizenship. No Spanish required.
