Support Systems and Professional Issues in Speech-Language Pathology ((3 Units))

Catalog description

Prerequisite: Admission to the graduate program in speech-language pathology. This course is designed for students in Speech-language pathology to enhance abilities to interact, interview, and provide educational information in order to create a support system and safe environment for persons with communication disabilities and their families. Students will actively participate in establishing and monitoring their own communication and counseling skills in order to become more attentive on how to counsel families and individuals. Also, students will be provided ethical, moral, and legal issues in the profession of Speech-Language Pathology. Information about collaboration, private practice, competency, preferred practice and professional standards, licensure and certification, marketing, risk management, telepractice, social media/social networking, and dual relationships are presented. Students are encouraged to develop professional viewpoints and identity.
