Nursing Pharmacology ((2 Units))

Catalog description

Prerequisite: Admission to the Applied Science in Nursing Program. This course will examine principles of pharmacotherapeutic agents used in the treatment of illness and promotion of wellness in diverse individuals across the lifespan. Emphasis is on fundamental concepts of pharmacology applied to major drug classes, actions, and effects. The focus is on commonly prescribed medications in terms of their mechanism of action, therapeutic use, and side and adverse effects. Students will learn all delivery systems of medications including oral and parenteral. Dosage calculation of medication is included in the course content. This course uses the core organizing concepts within the QSEN framework. A concept-based curriculum with selected nursing concepts will be followed.
