Fundamentals of friction lubrication and wear are treated; includes origins of friction and wear, material properties and contacting surfaces, lubricants and their function, and engineering approaches to mitigate friction and wear.  Specific topics include adhesive and abrasive friction/wear, boundary lubrication, fluid film bearings and their lubrication, rolling element bearings, bearing modeling, materials and engineering, and forensic analyses of tribological elements.
