Catalog description

Prerequisites: EDCI 240 , EDCI 241 , and EDCI 286 with a grade of C or better. In this course, Primary Inclusive, Middle Level Education, and Special Education teacher candidates will gain knowledge in literacy assessment and instruction. Throughout their practicum fieldwork, teacher candidates will administer a range of literacy assessments, learning how to analyze and report the data. Teacher candidates will use the data they collect to plan and implement instruction with a student at their field site utilizing a structured literacy curriculum. Emphasis will be placed on understanding the components of reading—phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension—and how these can be effectively assessed and taught to promote literacy success for all students.
