Catalog description

This course is designed to provide counseling students with a foundational examination of trauma, disaster response, crisis, and resilience across individual, familial, school, and systemic contexts. Students will learn to conceptualize trauma using neurobiological, developmental, systemic, and sociocultural frameworks, including the impact of intergenerational and historical trauma on families and individuals. The course emphasizes trauma-informed counseling principles, mental health assessment, and crisis intervention, as well as the counselor’s role in community response to trauma and interprofessional collaboration within the integrated systems of care.
