Catalog description

Prerequisite: COUN 662 . This advanced diagnosis course builds competency in clinical reasoning, differential diagnosis, and evaluating co-occurring disorders. The course emphasizes core procedures in the diagnostic assessment process, including unstructured and semi-structured clinical interviews, medical and substance-related rule-outs, and consideration of psychosocial and developmental influences on clinical presentation. Students will learn to integrate assessment data to form, test, and refine early diagnostic hypotheses and reduce diagnostic uncertainty, along with building understanding of neurobiological, psychopharmacological, and substance-related influences on symptoms to support clear, ethical, and accurate diagnosis in clinical practice.
