Prerequisite: CIVE 683 or CIVE 703 . Impulsive and transient loading of structural elements (beams, plates, shells, etc.) in which inelastic deformation occurs. Topics include: longitudinal and transverse plastic wave propagation in thin rods, propagation of plastic hinges, rate-dependent viscoplastic waves, transverse impact on beams and plates, high-rate forming, blast loading, plate perforation, shock waves in solids.
