This course is designed for English language learners who are new to reading and writing in English or who have not previously learned an alphabet-based writing system. Students develop foundational literacy skills by learning the English alphabet, letter-sound relationships, basic handwriting, and essential print concepts such as reading from left to right and understanding how written language represents spoken words. Instruction integrates listening and speaking practice to support reading and writing development in meaningful, real-life contexts. By building these core skills in a supportive, paced environment, students gain the confidence and academic readiness needed to successfully transition into entry-level English language courses.
