PUBLIC HEALTH PROFESSIONAL SKILLS AND CAREER PLANNING SEMINAR. In this 2-credit career development seminar for 3rd- and 4th-year public health majors and minors, students will explore career paths in public health and related fields, and plan for their next steps after graduation. Students will identify industries and careers that are a good fit for their career values, work preferences and goals, learn how to choose best-fit graduate schools and programs, and craft reflective narratives to explain how their Agnes Scott experience has prepared them for specific jobs and graduate programs. By the end of the semester, students will have developed and demonstrated a number of key professional skills: career planning, career backcasting, interviewing, networking, creating a professional brand, communication, salary negotiation, and maximizing the utility of Microsoft Excel for project management, data analysis, and budgeting. Students will update their resumes and LinkedIn profiles, write and revise a cover letter and graduate school personal statement, prepare spreadsheets to keep track of job applications and/or graduate school applications, conduct informational interviews, and create a professional website (digital portfolio). Prerequisite: JR or SR standing and declared Public Health major or minor.
