Special topic course title: The United States at 250: Revolutionary Memory and Resistance in the Age of Trump Course description: The 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States arrives this year at a time of deep political and cultural turmoil, as questions swirl about the future of democracy in this country. In this special topics course, students will examine events and ideas from the revolutionary period and interpret them in the context of ongoing current events. In addition to analyzing public commemorations of the anniversary, we will consider the role of revolutionary memory and rhetoric-such as "No Kings"-in contemporary resistance movements. Students will leave the class with a richer understanding of how the past informs the present and the value of historical analysis. Critical examination of a specific topic in the history of the United States. Topics vary from year to year and the course may be repeated for credit when the content changes.
