Catalog description

COUNSELING CHILDREN & ADOLESCENTS. This course will provide an overview of counseling theories and their application with children and adolescents. Cognitive-behavioral, multicultural, feminist, psychodynamic, behavioral, and humanistic theoretical orientations among others may be reviewed. The course will also provide an overview of the practical application of counseling techniques when working with youth, such as play therapy, creative expressive arts, and movement. Emphasis will be placed on approaches and skills that are integral to contemporary and multicultural settings with children and adolescents. Ecological, developmental, and systemic foundations of counseling will serve as a foundation for learning about school and community-based interventions with youth. Prerequisites: CMC-610, CMC-622, CMC-620, CMC-624, CMC-626, CMC-642.
