Jewish tradition regards dreams as one way God communicates with us. Like the meaning of Torah, the meaning of dreams is complex and changing. In this course, we will cover Jewish rituals around sleep and dreaming (such as nighttime prayers and dream courts), ancient advice from the Talmud on dream interpretation, Torah texts on sacred dreaming, and kabbalistic dream stories. We’ll learn about dream interpreters throughout Jewish history, and about modern approaches to Jewish dreaming. We will also convene dream circles in which we interpret one another’s dreams.
